COLAB
A Coworking Space for Nonprofits
Rising rents in Santa Barbara have driven smaller nonprofits to reduce their physical footprints—or eliminate them altogether. Many nonprofit teams are working from home—or in whatever makeshift space they're able to find individually. Not only can this feel isolating, it also keeps nonprofits from benefiting from the synergy and collaboration that sharing space creates.
After experiencing these operational challenges as Acting Executive Director of the Arts Fund, Jamie Dufek came up with a vision for a dedicated coworking space for nonprofits—CoLab. After discussing the idea with two fellow community leaders, she had commitments from both to be CoLab's first tenants.
